Essential Skills/Traits:
  • 2+ years of SEN childcare experience 
  • Strong background in SEN, ideally with experience in alternative education and Dual and Multiple Exceptionality (DME)
  • Ability and willingness to deliver learning in non-traditional, interest-led ways that engage the children
  • Skilled at motivating children to engage with adaptive learning tools and achieve academic goals
  • Able to track progress, identify needs early, and adapt strategies in collaboration with parents
  • Experienced in coaching emotional regulation and problem-solving using consistent, structured, and warm approaches

Main duties/responsibilities
  • Provide calm, patient, and consistent support to B9 and B6, adapting to each child’s unique sensory, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Plan and implement engaging, child-led activities both indoors and outdoors, balancing structured learning with free play and physical activity.
  • Facilitate both children’s engagement in their academic pursuits, ensuring learning is accessible, stimulating, and aligned with their interests and cognitive level.Monitor behaviour and emotional wellbeing, providing reassurance, guidance, and consistent boundaries to help both children regulate feelings and develop independence.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, interventions, and observations, communicating effectively with parents and professionals to ensure consistency between home and therapeutic goals.
  • Support B9 in managing sensory triggers, prompting the use of earplugs, sunglasses, or breaks from overstimulating environments to prevent meltdowns.
  • Encourage B9 to persist with challenging tasks (including use of app-based learning tools), build confidence in his abilities, and develop effective spoken communication strategies, particularly when tired or distressed.
  • Support B6 with focus and concentration during learning and structured activities, taking into account his dyspraxia, sensory processing needs, and motor planning challenges.
  • Assist B6 with fine and gross motor activities, including climbing, crashing, running, and movement-based play, while implementing strategies from his OT and physiotherapy sessions.
  • Encourage social interaction and cooperative play between B6 and B9, supporting positive sibling relationships and managing any emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Support B6 with daily routines including eating and personal care, accommodating his limited diet and high activity levels.
