Who would suit this role:
Main duties/responsibilities
  • Provide consistent after-school and/or daytime support for B8 in a calm, low-demand, and nurturing environment that promotes his confidence and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage B8’s independence in daily routines such as dressing, eating, and transitioning between activities, using gentle guidance and positive reinforcement.
  • Support B8’s communication and interaction skills, following strategies recommended by his Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) and Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Help B8 manage transitions and expectations by preparing him for changes in routine and using strategies that minimise anxiety or resistance.
  • Engage B8 in play and activities that align with his interests — such as drawing, reading, swimming, and outdoor play — to encourage learning, creativity, and physical development.
  • Act as an extra set of “eyes and ears” to ensure B8’s safety and wellbeing at all times, particularly when out in the community or during activities that require supervision.
  • Promote self-regulation and emotional awareness through calm, patient, and empathetic responses, helping B8 to recognise and manage his emotions in a supportive way.
  • Collaborate closely with the family and therapy team to ensure consistency in approach, communication strategies, and developmental goals.

  • Provide feedback and regular updates to parents on progress, challenges, and any observations that can support B8’s ongoing development and wellbeing.
