Essential Skills/Traits:
  • 2+ years of SEN childcare experience
  • Strong, hands-on experience working with autistic children or teenagers, with a deep understanding of how to support their communication, learning, and emotional development.
  • A genuine career nanny who is passionate about childcare and committed to working in this field long-term.
  • Energetic, friendly, and fun – able to engage B17 in active play, outdoor activities, and especially swimming, which he loves!
  • Kind, empathetic, and emotionally attuned, able to form a strong bond with B17 and create a relationship built on trust, laughter, and care.
  • Curious and open to learning more about autistic education, working closely with the home–school team and parents to ensure consistency and shared strategies.
  • Professional, responsible, and respectful of the family’s home environment.
  • A strong team player, able to collaborate effectively with parents, tutors, and therapists, while also confident taking initiative and working independently when needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, ensuring clear, timely updates across the home-school team to support consistent care and development.

Main duties/responsibilities
  • Provide attentive, consistent, and nurturing care for B17, supporting his emotional wellbeing, independence, and daily living skills.
  • Engage with B17 through his interests and playful activities, fostering connection, communication, and enjoyment in daily routines.
  • Support B17 in developing everyday life skills, including personal care, organisation, and self-regulation, with patience and gentle encouragement.
  • Maintain a predictable, structured environment, implementing routines and transitions to ensure B17 feels secure and supported.
  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team, including ABA teachers, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists, to implement strategies and programmes consistently across home and educational settings.
  • Liaise with tutors and professionals to monitor progress, communicate developments, and adjust approaches to best support B17’s needs.
  • Prepare meals, organise clothing and personal items, and manage resources to maintain a well-structured home environment.
  • Drive B17 to appointments, school, and activities as needed, ensuring safety, punctuality, and comfort.
  • Participate in home-school routines, including supporting targets and programmes from the therapeutic team, and maintaining consistency between settings.
  • Build a genuine, joyful, and trusting relationship with B17, celebrating his achievements, supporting his growth, and contributing to a fun and positive home environment.
  • Be reliable, professional, and proactive, providing stability and consistency in the household while contributing positively to the family’s daily life.
  • It isn’t expected that the person takes on other work during the day, to allow for flexibility for any extra responsibilities outside of their normal working hours, which would be agreed ad hoc between the parties.
