Essential Skills/Traits:
  • 2+ years of SEN experience working with young people, ideally in a 1:1 or support worker capacity
  • Strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, PDA/ODD and SEMH — and how these present together in a teenager
  • Mentally resilient and emotionally regulated — able to remain completely calm when language or behaviour becomes challenging
  • Experienced in de-escalation — able to recognise early signs of dysregulation and respond with skill rather than reaction
  • Genuinely funny and warm — someone B15 will respect and want to engage with
  • Confident with homework support — able to get a resistant teenager started, keep them on track and support as much as needed in the moment
  • Understanding of PDA and demand avoidance — uses indirect, low demand approaches naturally
  • Comfortable supporting a young person with echolalia and understanding that repeated language does not reflect the young person's true character
  • Interested in Lego, Nintendo, Pokémon, football cards and board games — genuine shared interests will go a long way!
