Essential Skills/Traits:
  • Minimum of 2+ years SEN childcare experience 
  • Strong understanding of early speech, language and communication development, with ability to implement SLT strategies in play and daily routines.
  • Experience supporting early years development, including school readiness skills.
  • Confident supporting toileting and potty training
  • Ability to support self-care skills
  • Playful, energetic and engaging
  • Patient, nurturing and emotionally attuned,
  • Understanding of sensory regulation needs, including incorporating movement and outdoor play to support engagement.
  • Able to provide structured but flexible support
  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with parents and follow therapeutic guidance consistently.

Main duties/responsibilities
  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for B4, focusing on communication, independence and school readiness.
  • Support speech and language development through play-based activities, implementing strategies from Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Engage B4 in structured, fun and child-led activities such as drawing, sorting, reading and imaginative play to encourage learning and interaction.
  • Support and encourage toileting and potty training in a calm, patient and consistent manner.
  • Assist with development of self-care skills, including dressing, feeding and trying new foods.
  • Incorporate movement and outdoor play (e.g. garden time) to support sensory regulation and engagement.
  • Establish and maintain a predictable routine with clear transitions to support security and participation.
  • Encourage communication by modelling language, supporting imitation, and creating opportunities for B4 to express his needs.
  • Monitor and support emotional regulation, ensuring B4 feels safe, calm and understood.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, providing updates on progress, challenges and developmental milestones.
