  • Monday - Friday: 2.30pm - 6.30pm

Approx 52.5 hours School Holidays

Essential Skills/Traits:
  • Minimum of 2+ years SEN childcare experience
  • Experience supporting children with autism, particularly non-verbal children.
  • Strong understanding of sensory processing needs and strategies to support self-regulation.
  • Skilled in implementing communication approaches, including PECs and alternative communication methods.
  • Patient, calm, and consistent in approach, with the ability to manage high-energy behaviours effectively.
  • Able to engage a child through play, activities, and food-based motivation.
  • Strong observational skills to notice subtle cues and respond appropriately to needs or dysregulation.
  • Flexible, proactive, and creative in adapting activities to the child’s interests and developmental stage.
  • Collaborative, able to work closely with parents, therapists, and school staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Empathetic, nurturing, and affectionate, building a trusting and positive relationship with the child.

Main duties/responsibilities
  • Provide consistent, patient, and nurturing support to B6 at home, reinforcing strategies from his specialist school, occupational therapy, and speech and language sessions.
  • Support the development of communication skills through everyday interactions, play, and therapy-informed activities.
  • Encourage social interaction and play with peers and family members, helping him build relationships and practice turn-taking and sharing.
  • Facilitate and supervise a variety of structured and unstructured activities, including outdoor play, swimming, climbing, jigsaws, reading, and matching games.
  • Help B6 manage sensory-seeking behaviours and high energy levels with appropriate movement breaks and calming strategies.
  • Promote independence in daily routines, including self-care, dressing, and mealtimes.
  • Monitor and limit screen time, ensuring that any TV or digital use is structured and does not become repetitive or fixating.
  • Collaborate with parents and therapists to maintain consistency in routines, communication approaches, and developmental strategies.
  • Observe, record, and report progress, challenges, and notable behaviours to parents and relevant professionals as needed.
  • Provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where B6 can thrive and enjoy learning and play.
